Don’t Take Our Tails Away!

Edmonton mermaids are in extinction! Thanks to this silly new law.

Apparently they are deemed to be “hazardous” in public pools or for the individual swimming in the tails..

Which makes me go..

But in all honesty, someone who has NO experience swimming in a tail should take baby steps when diving into the deep end or into dangerous waters.

( it’s common sense!) duhhh

The same applies to pretty much any task, or activity or hobby.

When you’re beginning to learn snowboarding or skating you don’t just go to the highest mountain without prior training or knowledge on how to handle that said mountain or obstacle.

When you’re new at guitar, you don’t just book shows right away, you wait until you find yourself at a comfortable level, enough to get in front of hundreds of strangers and perform.lauren-conrad-yikes

Maybe the problem then, is related to the mermaid tail makers, who have gained quite a spike in popularity thanks to popular TV shows like H20 or Youtube mermaids ( cause really mermaid tails have been around for much longer, think of the performers you’ve seen at big casinos or high end bars.) But how on earth would you moderate who gets a tail and who doesn’t?

Luckily Marielle Chartier Henault, founder of AquaMermaid Academy in Montreal, has a positive view on this matter; “It makes people happy. You can’t be mad or sad when you see a mermaid.” The schools plan to spread across Canada this very year starting with Toronto and following with Ottawa.

What are your thoughts on this new ban merbaes?

  1. Mermaid Shelli says:

I am one of those manufacturers of mermaid tails, I’m in Calgary. Everyone I know who has one thinks the ban/restriction is ridiculous, especially since there is no evidence to support the claims. To solve the problem I too am starting a mermaid school, but now it is hard to get access to the pools when they find out what your intention is
