If Mermaids Had Legs They Would Totes Do This Retreat

As mermaids we’ve definitely heard of underwater swimming sessions, retreats, photo-shoots and even classes! But rarely do we see opportunities that offer these things AND combine them with an environmental impact.

After all, without our oceans, we wouldn’t even have any of these options available to us in the first place! So it’s SO important to give back especially in such a bleak time of marine life devastation.

That’s when I came across miss Christine Ren on Instagram, an underwater performer, diver, and activist in Marine conservation. She’s curated and organized a magical trip, fit for us salty sirens where you explore bodies of water in #travelworthy destinations like Koh Tao, Thailand and sunny Los Angeles ( with a flippin’ 10% going towards ocean conversation!).

The program is meant to immerse you into another dimension, one filled with movement and nature. What kind of movement you might wonder.. well one that makes you filled with connection and purpose.

I mean, let’s be real, it’s not often that you get to dance + meditate underwater alongside exotic sealife, AND get pro pictures of those moments taken.

I wonder if mermaids had legs if they’d take up underwater ballet as a hobby…I guess there’s one way to find out.

Somewhere In The Thai Jungle

If you’ve ever wanted to spend the night in the exotic, isolated and opulent south-east Asian jungle, explore Villa Zolitude Resort & Spa #villalife.

When I think of Phucket, I imagine, (as we most do) bright white beaches and translucent waters with shimmering coral reef and sparkling zebrafish. I picture the iconic Phi Phi islands jutting from underneath turquoise waves, the cloudless blue skies and humming sound of long tail boats.

But with this beauty, comes popularity, and retreating in the jungles of Thailand can offer a type of luxury and unforgettable privacy that these hot spots can no longer provide.

Staying at this 2 story pool villa was a dream. It was a temporary sanctuary in the jungle, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions.

I felt an endless sense of calm as we entered the property, greeted with smiles and lavish wildlife. I had just come back from the Elephant Sanctuary and needed a place to hide from the blazing afternoon sun.

The interiors of the villa were beautifully decorated, accessorized with traditional tapestries with surrounding room length wide windows and two floors of bliss.

Spending most of my time by the deep blue infinity pool, that spilled and overlooked onto the quiet hillside with lots of music & a few glasses of wine.

I heard a blend of bird & insect orchestras at all times of the day;  whether in the afternoon, evening and morning hours, we never felt alone.

As night approached I ordered in villa dining to celebrate another amazing day in Thailand, the service was exquisite.

At sunrise, I was woken by the sounds of the jungle surrounding me and I traced the sun with my eyes until it was flooding our room.

Before saying goodbye, I stopped by their spa for a full aromatic body massage (which was excellent). I don’t have photos from those moments, but the spa had an open concept setting surrounded by small ponds and lilly pads, buzzing with the sound of dragonfly wings and crickets.

Villa Zolitude will forever weigh on my memory as an unforgettable, intimate and healing experience. What’s the next jungle resort I should swim by? Leave me suggestions in the comments ❤

Mermaid Monday: Acqua Del Elba’s Oceanic Scents

image2 (2)

Last year I decided to take my fins on a short but sweet vacation to Italy in a little city called Rome…

And, of course, as most material merbaes do, one of the first things I did was explore and scour the city for some hidden treasures in the design district. I spent the whole afternoon checking out the boutiques, taking in the ancient streets and listening in on the foreign chatter of natives. I suddenly came face to face when a monument of teal goodness, the perfume store “Acqua Dell Elba”.

Ever since my first perfume purchase there, I’ve been hooked.

The craftmanship is stunning and the scents last for days (literally). When I spray the scent” Acqua” in my hair, it trails and trails even in the muggiest city walks. They’re all handcrafted on a paradise island called Elba (seriously need to go there, yesterday!)

Design:
-Super clean, modern glass design

-Blue colored fragrance (looks like the ocean!)

-Durable glass (but don’t drop it cause you never know!)

Scents:

Donna: Sweet, floral scent with a musky undertone to it. Made with, myrtle, gardenia, jasmine and Mediterranean shrubs + marine cistus. It’s the perfect scent for Spring with a touch of the sea.

image1 (7)

Acqua: This one I LOVE, it’s totally unisex as well. The scent transfers well on men as it does with women I’d say. It’s fresh, with lemon, musk and mediterrean shrubs + it has marine algae! Yes Merbaes you heard that right.  MARINE ALGAE.

image2 (3)

The company ships internationally, but if you happen to have a store near you, I would def recommend stopping by, it’s just such a soothing, minty experience!

Have you tried their perfumes? Would you try them out? Let’s get the pod talking ❤

Become A Land Mermaid With These Fintastic Swimsuits

Happy Starfish Saturday Merbaes! I know it’s been a while.

I have been actively planning my trip to Miami on Monday, and by actively planning, I mean buying ridiculously cute accessories and clothes that would be perfect to shoot and strut in while there, soaking up the sun! (Us Canadian mermaids don’t get much of that).

Margarita Mermaid has been on my mind for quite some time now, plus she’s been all over my Instagram feed for the past few months (Thanks for the reminder, Instagram :p) . This designer creates adult mermaid attire that will make your inner child squee of happiness.

My only frustration with purchasing was that anytime a style i’d want would get restocked or released on the website, my size would be gone in a matter of minutes (figures!).

Luckily, I was able to snatch a mix and match pair of high waisted mermaid bottoms and a seashell inspired bikini. Of course, they are both blue/teal, my signature colours!

I can’t wait to share the photos of me wearing it on the beach! But for the time being, check out her amazing newest collection “Castaway Siren”

Musical Vampire Mermaids? Yes plz!

000069-26559-16196_thelure_still1_michalinaolszanska__byrobertpalka_-_h_2016

What do you get when you mix the mischievous nature of mythical mermaids with a modern twist a la 80’s?

The Lure.

This trailer starts off pretty grim, reminiscent of the Odyssey with the captivating mermaids that attracted the sailors to their deaths with their songs. It quickly ripples off into a gleam of fab imagination, one floating in a bleak ocean of an exotic club reality.

There’s tons of glitter, glamour and a pinch of horror, but the musical sing along aspect of the film relieves that dark tension.

Personally, I much prefer European films as they offer a sophisticated glimpse into revisiting the mermaid idea without making it corny and PG, so I wasn’t surprised to learn this was shot in Poland (plus the subtitles gave it away).

Who else is excited to see this movie? Let’s bring a little show girl goth-ness into the mer-world!

Dudeoir x Mermaids

If you’ve never heard of Joshua Varozza listen up merbaes, because this guy definitely caught my attention like a fish out of water!

You may remember him from his previous epic photo-shoot collection that went viral, it had an America theme. But now he dove a bit deeper and decided to come out with this little number.

I can’t decide if it’s funny or cute, but one thing’s for sure – Merman Power!

Would personally love to see more photo-shoots like this even if they are meant for humour, what about you my fishy friends?

Arctic Mermaid Hair Transformation!

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll probably know that I’ve had a variety of blue-green shades for over 8 years now.

It’s been my “go-to” hairstyle for as long as I can remember. My most recent shade being a pastel mint, which was diluted from a deep emerald green.

it’s been a long magical journey… But last week I decided to metamorphose into an icy mermaid!

Here’s a special look into my day at Good Day Hair Shop

So first of all the salon is SUPER cute, they are located in the heart of downtown Toronto tucked away in Kensington market. They make their own hair products (that are heavenly) and know exactly what’s on with trends and colours.

image (12)

Little did I know there are SO many different shades of grey/white and tints, so I decided to let my colourist, Christopher help me choose the right shade.

We started by lifting the entire mint colour from my hair with a lower volume of bleach so as not to damage my poor hair.

Then once my hair was super blonde, we added in some toner + bleach bath to ensure all the colour was out. We then re-added some custom coloured mint to give the subtle halo look. The whole process took about 4 hours.

Christopher was very careful when shampooing my hair and adding the toner, making sure that my hair wouldn’t fry off. We used the Good day hair shop silver fox shampoo and it made my hair feel super soft with the lingering sweet smell of vanilla candy.

The end result: A super cool toned silver with a mint halo

 Styled + extensions added:

I used Good Hair Day Shop‘s exclusive Mermaid Sea Salt Spray to finalize the beachy- wavy look and give my tresses that much needed mer-curl.

image (16)

You can buy their spray in store and it smells absolutely fintastic! It also doubles up as a hair spray. Perfect for those summer festival looks !

image (18)

For silver hair maintenance, they also carry a purple shampoo + conditioner combo.

I would highly recommend the products + the salon and my magical hair colourist Christopher for anyone looking to change up their hair, they do an excellent job and made this mermaid super happy!

This Jewellery Is As Pretty As The Ocean!

When I came across Japanese artist Mariko Kusumoto’s delicately detailed necklaces, I thought I was peering into another world. One filled with whimsy, lightness and magic.

At first glimpse, you would think these pieces are made from environmental treasures that were found in nature. Familiar forms of sea urchins, shells and flourishing anemones instantly came to my mind.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

.

After all, they look so organic and ever- so fragile, like majestic organisms plucked from right under the sea.

Kusumoto is inspired by anything that may stimulate, inthrall and delight the senses, when creating her designs.

She does this by heating translucent fabric, then molding and shaping it into perfect, synthetic magical eye-gasms.

The level of sophistication is near perfection, fit for a mermaid queen to wear and style.

If you had one of Mariko’s pieces, where would you wear it out first?

Mermaid Tights: Review Continued..

Hello my Merbaes!

So I am really excited to talk about these fin-tastic tights from Tinkercast that went super viral!

Here you will get an in depth look at the tights through pictures + some quick notes about them, what I like and what I don’t like!

So, here we go.

Here is a quick sneak peek at one of my recent shoots with the amazingly talented Montreal based photographer Marisa Parisella (Glamour MTL) while wearing the tights.

legz.jpg

So as you can see they LOOK and FEEL like my skin because they are sheer tights, that fit you oh so perfectly.

You can rock them with pretty much anything, as I was mentioning in my video, I wore them with a short teddy/lingerie for this pin up inspired shoot and with some rhinestone heels!

Here’s some less fancy shots I took on my camera at home:

IMG_2104

What I like:

-Durable (but you should still be careful when performing physical exercise)

-Lightweight

-Fashionable

-Realistic

-Shimmery!

What I don’t like:

-Sweat/heat trapping behind silicone applications when moving around a lot

That’s pretty much it, really!

I absolutely love them, they are so sparkly and magical, and honestly since these are considered a wearable prosthetic, the price tag is actually not as bad as it initially seems. If you don’t have the $ for a full on silicone tail, these could be a great, unique alternative as well!

I will do another blog post checking in and updating you lovelies on how they hold up, but so far so good!

These Rainbow Highlighters Are Everything

Highlighters come in all shapes and sizes, you have your creams, your sticks, your liquids, your powders,

but now for the first time ever..

RAINBOW HIGHLIGHTERS! (Are you as excited as I am?)

iKaV3uF

Obviously this is not for your everyday mer-bae look but if you’re like me and addicted to those shimmering eye-catching marvels that we call highlighters, I would definitely pick one of these up for safe keeping.

I found these on Etsy’s BitterLaceBeauty and she makes them in all colours if rainbow is too out there for you.

Like this pearlescent shade with a blueish purple tint to it- totally reminds me of a unicorn mane floating in the wind.

Or maybe blue is more of your colour..

They even have a shade that’s perfect for a subtle rose glow look,

But for someone who has cool undertones and wants to sparkle in lavender, this one is definitely calling my name… And of course it’s called “New Seashells”.
