What do you get when you mix the mischievous nature of mythical mermaids with a modern twist a la 80’s?
This trailer starts off pretty grim, reminiscent of the Odyssey with the captivating mermaids that attracted the sailors to their deaths with their songs. It quickly ripples off into a gleam of fab imagination, one floating in a bleak ocean of an exotic club reality.
There’s tons of glitter, glamour and a pinch of horror, but the musical sing along aspect of the film relieves that dark tension.
Personally, I much prefer European films as they offer a sophisticated glimpse into revisiting the mermaid idea without making it corny and PG, so I wasn’t surprised to learn this was shot in Poland (plus the subtitles gave it away).
Who else is excited to see this movie? Let’s bring a little show girl goth-ness into the mer-world!
If you’ve never heard of Joshua Varozza listen up merbaes, because this guy definitely caught my attention like a fish out of water!
You may remember him from his previous epic photo-shoot collection that went viral, it had an America theme. But now he dove a bit deeper and decided to come out with this little number.
I can’t decide if it’s funny or cute, but one thing’s for sure – Merman Power!
Would personally love to see more photo-shoots like this even if they are meant for humour, what about you my fishy friends?
When I came across Japanese artist Mariko Kusumoto’s delicately detailed necklaces, I thought I was peering into another world. One filled with whimsy, lightness and magic.
At first glimpse, you would think these pieces are made from environmental treasures that were found in nature. Familiar forms of sea urchins, shells and flourishing anemones instantly came to my mind.
After all, they look so organic and ever- so fragile, like majestic organisms plucked from right under the sea.
Kusumoto is inspired by anything that may stimulate, inthrall and delight the senses, when creating her designs.
She does this by heating translucent fabric, then molding and shaping it into perfect, synthetic magical eye-gasms.

The level of sophistication is near perfection, fit for a mermaid queen to wear and style.
If you had one of Mariko’s pieces, where would you wear it out first?

I recently came across this amazing photo of a crocodile skull engraved with hand made carvings of embellishments and a sitting Buddah..
Pretty amazing right? I know. It’s almost surreal!
The dedication this work of art must have taken is unimaginable. So I searched the web’s nooks and crannies to find the artist and give credit to this glorious art work. Low and behold I found“Bali Organic Arts”!
They source their skulls ethically, as mentioned on their etsy page and facebook, which is really great and comforting.
The best part? They are affordable!
They range from 300 $ and up, which is standard taxidermy pricing for something even basic. Needless to say, I’m keeping my eye on this company, they are very talented and unique!
What do you think about these skulls? Which is your favourite?
You can buy them from Bali Organic Arts! I don’t sell them.
