Arctic Mermaid Hair Transformation!

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll probably know that I’ve had a variety of blue-green shades for over 8 years now.

It’s been my “go-to” hairstyle for as long as I can remember. My most recent shade being a pastel mint, which was diluted from a deep emerald green.

it’s been a long magical journey… But last week I decided to metamorphose into an icy mermaid!

Here’s a special look into my day at Good Day Hair Shop

So first of all the salon is SUPER cute, they are located in the heart of downtown Toronto tucked away in Kensington market. They make their own hair products (that are heavenly) and know exactly what’s on with trends and colours.

Little did I know there are SO many different shades of grey/white and tints, so I decided to let my colourist, Christopher help me choose the right shade.

We started by lifting the entire mint colour from my hair with a lower volume of bleach so as not to damage my poor hair.

Then once my hair was super blonde, we added in some toner + bleach bath to ensure all the colour was out. We then re-added some custom coloured mint to give the subtle halo look. The whole process took about 4 hours.

Christopher was very careful when shampooing my hair and adding the toner, making sure that my hair wouldn’t fry off. We used the Good day hair shop silver fox shampoo and it made my hair feel super soft with the lingering sweet smell of vanilla candy.

The end result: A super cool toned silver with a mint halo

I used Good Hair Day Shop‘s exclusive Mermaid Sea Salt Spray to finalize the beachy- wavy look and give my tresses that much needed mer-curl.

You can buy their spray in store and it smells absolutely fintastic! It also doubles up as a hair spray. Perfect for those summer festival looks !

For silver hair maintenance, they also carry a purple shampoo + conditioner combo.

I would highly recommend the products + the salon and my magical hair colourist Christopher for anyone looking to change up their hair, they do an excellent job and made this mermaid super happy!

This Jewellery Is As Pretty As The Ocean!

When I came across Japanese artist Mariko Kusumoto’s delicately detailed necklaces, I thought I was peering into another world. One filled with whimsy, lightness and magic.

At first glimpse, you would think these pieces are made from environmental treasures that were found in nature. Familiar forms of sea urchins, shells and flourishing anemones instantly came to my mind.

After all, they look so organic and ever- so fragile, like majestic organisms plucked from right under the sea.

Kusumoto is inspired by anything that may stimulate, inthrall and delight the senses, when creating her designs.

She does this by heating translucent fabric, then molding and shaping it into perfect, synthetic magical eye-gasms.

The level of sophistication is near perfection, fit for a mermaid queen to wear and style.

If you had one of Mariko’s pieces, where would you wear it out first?

Mermaid School Opening This Sunday!

Back to our roots..
Back to our roots..

This sunday is quite the exciting day indeed. The popular mermaid school from Montreal Aquasirene is now opening it’s new location in Toronto on Queen St!

giphyAs an employee for their new division, I thought I would share the news since it’s a unique event and opportunity to not only get in shape by swimming in a monofin, but also fulfilling your dreams of becoming a mermaid for a day (maybe longer if you take a tail home :P)

We all know how expensive silicone, latex, even fabric tails can cost online, so    it’s a great place to start and get used to the idea of swimming in a tail before you make the commitment of going custom.

Personally, as someone that’s swam in both fabric tails and silicone, I can tell you that you want..nay, NEED to start off with a lighter material in the beginning, especially if you are not a trained swimmer. Silicone in itself is extremely heavy, and then you have the additional weight of the monofin. At least with the fabric tails the weight is only felt around and on the feet.

Here’s some more super adorable photos of merbaes at the Montreal academy:

Don’t Take Our Tails Away!

11047673

Edmonton mermaids are in extinction! Thanks to this silly new law.

Apparently they are deemed to be “hazardous” in public pools or for the individual swimming in the tails..

Which makes me go..

Black-Guy-Really-GIF

But in all honesty, someone who has NO experience swimming in a tail should take baby steps when diving into the deep end or into dangerous waters.

( it’s common sense!) duhhh

The same applies to pretty much any task, or activity or hobby.

When you’re beginning to learn snowboarding or skating you don’t just go to the highest mountain without prior training or knowledge on how to handle that said mountain or obstacle.

When you’re new at guitar, you don’t just book shows right away, you wait until you find yourself at a comfortable level, enough to get in front of hundreds of strangers and perform.lauren-conrad-yikes

Maybe the problem then, is related to the mermaid tail makers, who have gained quite a spike in popularity thanks to popular TV shows like H20 or Youtube mermaids ( cause really mermaid tails have been around for much longer, think of the performers you’ve seen at big casinos or high end bars.) But how on earth would you moderate who gets a tail and who doesn’t?

Luckily Marielle Chartier Henault, founder of AquaMermaid Academy in Montreal, has a positive view on this matter; “It makes people happy. You can’t be mad or sad when you see a mermaid.” The schools plan to spread across Canada this very year starting with Toronto and following with Ottawa.

What are your thoughts on this new ban merbaes?
